If you have no idea what an NFT is, that’s ok. There is a whole section detailing this concept.
For now, all you need to know is that an NFT is a standardized record on a Blockchain signed to its owner. It is a property rights technology.
It can be any digital asset, such as photo, picture, text, video, music, and so on.
There are several apps that help you transform a digital file into an NFT.
Here we are gonna use the Mirror.xyz and transform your Articles and Blog Posts into Writing NFTs.
Mirror is a content platform. A kind of Web3-native WordPress, that is, it has many Blockchain-related features.
In May 2022, this article was published as a limited collection of 333 Writing NFTs and put for sale for 0.01 ETH each, which was worth $20 on the release date.
All 333 items were sold out, generating nearly $7000 in proceeds, just with one article.
That’s the power of this tool. So, let’s see how to use it.
The first step is to access mirror.xyz and click on Try Mirror.
One pop-up with options of wallets will be shown.
This is the equivalent of login on the Web2 platforms. But without the annoying process of filling up email and password, which we never remember.
The wallet is responsible to manage your keys, remember? And with the same on-chain credentials you can connect to any web3 app.
So, click on Metamask, and wait for the Metamask window to open up.
Click on Connect and then Remember, and Sign, to prove your identity to the platform.
You are now logged in and all information created on this web3 app will be associated with your id, the public address, on the blockchain
Now fill in all the information required by Mirror, such as name, bio, profile picture, color, and username.
Done. Your profile was created. Now let’s create your article.
Just write the title and the entire piece as you are used to doing on others blog platforms, and then click Publish.
The Ethereum Blockchain works in Networks. The Mainnet Network is the safest, but also the most expensive. The gas fee, the transaction cost to store any data on the Blockchain, is usually too high.
But Mirror uses a layer on top of Ethereum called Optimism. You don’t need to understand this now.
Just click Switch to Optimism Network.
Click on Approve and then Switch network.
Now you have two options.
To publish your article as a free collection NFT, where anyone can mint it by paying just some cents for the gas, or you can set up a price and a limited supply to sell your content and raise some money.
You can set the price here in ETH and the supply here. But for now, you will keep it for free.
So just uncheck the funding button and click on Sign and Publish.
Click to show the entire message and then in Sign.
Congratulations! Now you can share your article with your audience or friends and let them collect or buy your Writing NFT to support your work.
They’ll need to have a crypto wallet, like Metamask, with some funds to pay for the transaction fee. If you want to collect your own Writing NFT, learn how to buy crypto, in this case, Ether, and how to send it to your wallet.
